June 26, 2019—The 2020 race is on. Pundits and voters are scrutinizing just about every decision made by candidates, though not always on their specific policy proposals. A recent New York Times article suggests that opinions can be influenced by fashion choices. Take Joe Biden. His aviator sunglasses suggest a “Top Gun-meets-power-casual-club cool.” Or Beto O’Rouke’s crisp button-up with rolled-up sleeves. He’s ready to go, but not suit-jacket stuffy. Women face a need to don their power, too. Sen. Kamala Harris softens her image with a string of pearls. Sen. Elizabeth Warren emphasizes her no-nonsense plans wearing simple black slacks and jewel-tone jackets.
